Enterprising Hillsborough HS Junior Takes a Dip in the Shark Tank

MANVILLE, NJ - A "Shark Tank"-inspired competition featuring 18 Somerset County students grades 7-12 will take place at the Manville Library Friday, May 19 from 7-9:30 p.m.

Among the competitors is Vraj Thakar, an 11th-grader at Hillsborough High School. 

The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey’s second Teen Tycoons entrepreneurial competition will involve a one-minute presentation (without props, slides, or any other supporting materials) to a panel of judges who are looking for original business concepts and/or new variations of an existing business concept.

Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners.

“This is the second year we will be offering this program and I am very excited we have opened up the program to 7th and 8th graders,” said program coordinator Cathy DeBerry. “It it clear by this year's registrations that the entrepreneurial spirit is not limited to any age.”

United Way Holds Free Tax-a-Thon Feb. 2 & 3

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – Low- and moderate-income residents can get their taxes filed during Northern New Jersey United Way’s free tax-a-thon event Feb. 2 and 3 which will include popcorn, prizes and children’s face painting.

Held at United Way’s Bridgewater office, 1011 Route 22 West, Suite 202, the sessions will take place by appointment only from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
