HILLSBOROUGH, NJ – The Township Committee honored Christina Smith, a Special Education teacher at Amsterdam Elementary School, as Teacher of the Year for 2018 at a recent meeting.
Robyn Becker, a speech therapist at the school, was named Educational Services Professional of the Year.
Both received proclamations from Mayor Gloria McCauley.
Smith has been a member of the Hillsborough School District faculty for 23 years. She is the co-founder of Field Day at Amsterdam Elementary School, which is now in its 20th year.
A proclamation presented to Smith by the Township Committee notes “She consistently delivers meaningful differentiated instruction to meet the needs of her students. Christina is keenly aware of each student’s individuality as well as their unique gifts and talents."
Becker has been a member of the Hillsborough School District since 2006.
She completed her doctorate in speech language pathology in 2016, focusing on enhancing learning outcomes in early literacy via collaboration between teachers and speech language pathologists. She also recently completed an Advanced Certification Program in School Supervision and is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Montclair State University
