HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - The Township Committee recognized the Auten Road Intermediate School fifth grade Teams 5G and 5H at the Feb. 25th meeting for their participation in the Sixth Annual “Soup-er Bowl” collection, a challenge between the teams to collect the most cans of food to donate to the Hillsborough Township Food Pantry.

“The Hillsborough Township Committee commends Auten Road Teams 5G and 5H for the honor they have brought themselves, their school and their community”, said Deputy Mayor Shawn Lipani.

During the two week challenge, the students in both teams learned the true lesson of charity. They canvassed their neighborhoods collecting cans and received generous donations from family members. Teams, which numbered 104 families, gathered 2,318 cans of soup for charity. The students also checked expiration dates, sorted all the food types and boxed the donations for delivery.

The Auten Road “Soup-er Bowl” victors were Team 5G, the 49ers, however, all the students were truly winners by giving back to their community, according to Lipani.
