FLEMINGTON, NJ – The Congressional Leadership Fund super-PAC announced yesterday it is earmarking $2.1 million for broadcast and cable television ads to help re-elect Rep. Leonard Lance., R-7th

It is the second round of television ad buys announced by the PAC, which is endorsed by House Speaker Paul Ryan.

The advertising will also include “an unprecedented $10 million digital investment,” according to the PAC announcement.

“Thanks to Speaker Paul Ryan and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s leadership in Congress, CLF continues to break fundraising records, allowing us to be more aggressive in adding new races and increasing our previous buys,” said Corry Bliss, CLF Eeecutive director. “These efforts ensure that CLF will have the resources needed to prevent Republican members of Congress from being outspent this fall.”

Lance faces stiff opposition from Tom Malinowski, who won the Democratic nomination for the state’s 7th Congressional District. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced yesterday that – because of the Trump administration’s “unprecedented decision to declare (healthcare) protections for individuals with pre-existing conditions unconstitutional” – it would launch an immediate “five-figure digital advertising blitz to warn voters ... that access to affordable healthcare is at risk as long as Republicans control Congress.”

The DCCC says that there are more than 300,000 non-elderly people in the 7th district with pre-existing conditions.

Malinowski called the Administration’s decision not to defend existing statutes in court “unprecedented” and that it will leave millions without protections and “increase uncertainty in the health care market just as insurers are planning rate changes for next year.”

Lance says he’s “leading the fight” for healthcare reform “with sensible measures that include allowing insurance to be sold across state lines, improving health savings accounts, establishing Association Health Plans (AHP) insurance pools and enacting real medical malpractice reform.”

New Jersey's 7th Congressional District is located in the northwestern portion of the state and includes Hunterdon County and portions of Essex, Morris, Somerset, Union, and Warren counties.

Lance, first elected to Congress in 2008,  lives in Hunterdon County; Malinowski, who held positions in the Clinton and Obama administrations, is a resident of Rocky Hill.  Both candidates won decisive victories in the June 5 Primary.

The Democrats need to win 24 seats to regain control of the House, and have targeted the 7th District in New Jersey as one it hopes to flip. Hillary Clinton outpolled Donald Trump in the 2016 Presidential election in the 7th District by a narrow margin of 49 to 48 percent.
