HILLSBOROUGH, NJ – It’s not just fun and games at the Hillsborough Rotary Fair.
There’s a fair amount of business being conducted beneath the red-and-white striped tents in the shadows of the giant ferris wheel and other attractions at the fairgrounds alongside the Lowe's Home Improvement store in the Hillsborough Promenade shopping center.
The five-day fair runs Aug. 13-17. Hours are 6-10 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and 6-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a fireworks display Friday night. More than 15,000 are expected to attend the family-friendly event.
More than two dozen vendors – Realtors, home contractors, health clubs, sports centers, tax services, credit unions, martial arts schools, beauty care, kids’ day care and others – help each year to support the Rotary Fair, which is the main fund raiser each year for the service organization.
Their participation helps to support the Rotary and the community – every dollar spent at the fair is distributed by the Rotary to good causes – charities, non-profits, schools, food bank and others.
While they’re giving back, they’re getting back – sales and potential customers, according to Rotary member Ken Genco, who has supervises the vendors.
The $600 fee for the five days is money well spent, according to Genco.
“The biggest benefit is being face to face,” Genco said. “People get a chance to talk to you personally.” He added.
“it’s also about getting involved in the community, which is so, so important when you are in business,” Genco added.
Genco, a Realtor in the Hillsborough/Montgomery Coldwell Banker office, has been under the red-and-white striped tent for the past 12 years at the fair.
“Let me tell you something, it has been advantageous for me,” he said. “I’ve sold houses to people who I met at the fair.”
