HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - The Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County is holding information sessions for potential volunteers who may be interested in becoming an adult literacy tutor.
Representatives of the organization will be at the Hillsborough Township library at the municipal complex, 379 South Branch Road, from 6-7 p.m. on Jan. 9.
There will be two other opportunities to learn more about the organization on Jan. 7 from 6-7 7 p.m. at the Franklin Township Library and Jan. 8 from 6-7 p.m. at the Bridgewater Township Library.
Literacy Volunteers is recruiting tutors to teach literacy skills to adult learners. Tutors receive 12 hours of training in basic literacy and English for speakers of other languages during four weekly sessions.
Once the training is complete, tutors are matched with an adult learner. They usually meet once a week for tutoring sessions, often at a local library.
The winter tutor training class will be held on the consecutive Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m. at the PeopleCare Center in Bridgewater.
The sessions will be held Jan. 22, Jan. 29, Feb. 5 and Feb. 12.
