Driver Charged with Causing Passenger’s Death

PISCATAWAY, NJ – A Woodbridge man has been charged with causing the death of a passenger in his car.

Tayib Mahmood, 29, of Woodbridge was charged May 16 with causing the death of Tahir Jamile, 27, of the Colonia section of Woodbridge, who was pronounced dead at the scene on May 6 after the car Mahmood was driving struck a concrete barrier on Stelton Road near Jessie Way, catching fire, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Piscataway Police Chief Scott Cartmell.

Mahmood was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital with serious injuries and underwent immediate surgery, said police.

He was charged with second degree vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, driving under the influence in a school zone, reckless and careless driving, and failure to maintain lane, said police.

Mahmood is scheduled to appear in a New Brunswick court on June 12.
