Hillsborough Homeowner Uninjured, But Pets Perish in House Fire

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - Firefighters extinguished a fire at 63 Claremont Road Monday morning, with most of the damage contained to the living room.

The lone occupant of a residence, Sharon Cobb, 66, was not injured; however, several pets, including a dog and a bird, died as a result of the fire, according to police.

Police first responded to a report of a house fire at 10:11 a.m.

Also responding were Hillsborough Township Fire Units 36,37 and 38; Washington Valley Fire Department, Somerset Fire Department, Manville Fire Department, Hillsborough Office of Emergency Management, Hillsborough Social Services, and Public Service Electric & Gas.

The orgin of the fire is unknown; police and the township Fire Safety Bureau are investigating.

Somerset County Flags at Half-Staff to Honor Grace Gurisic, First Woman Freeholder

SOMERVILLE, NJ – Somerset County will fly its flags at half-staff July 12 in memory of Grace A. Gurisic, who served as the county’s first woman freeholder more than half a century ago.
