HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - Firefighters took less than an hour to extinguish a fire at a residence on Old Somerville Road Thursday afternoon, according to Hillsborough Police Sgt. Stephan Nowicki.

Police were first to respond to 17 Old Somerville Road at 2:47 p.m. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the residence when firefighters arrived, Nowicki said.

The residence was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

The residence was deemed uninhabitable.

The fire is not considered suspicious but remains under investigation by detectives from the Hillsborough Township Police Department and the Hillsborough Township Bureau of Fire Safety.

The following agencies responded: Hillsborough Fire Units 36, 37, 38, Elizabeth Avenue Fire Company, Somerset Fire Company, Robert Wood Johnson EMS, Hillsborough Township Office of Emergency Management, Hillsborough Township Building Department and Public Service Electric & Gas.
