BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Bridgewater Police have identified the 37-year-old Somerville man who drowned while swimming in the Chimney Rock Reservoir Monday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Michael Woskey.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the Chimney Rock Reservoir for a possible drowning at 3:05 p.m. Monday.
When they arrived, police said, they learned from witnesses that Woskey had jumped from one of the cliffs and began to swim across the reservoir. While he was swimming, police said, he began to struggle, and when witnesses lost sight of him, they called 911 for help.
The Somerset County Dive Team was dispatched, and began to search the water for Woskey until the search was called off for darkness at 9:15 p.m. The search resumed at 8 a.m. Tuesday, and, with the assistance of the New Jersey State Police Marine Unit and their sonar equipment, Woskey was found at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Also responding to the scene to provide assistance were the Somerset County Park Rangers, the NJSP Marine Unit, Somerset Fire and Rescue, Martinsville Rescue, Green Knoll Rescue, Green Knoll Fire Department, the Bound Brook Police Department, Somerville Rescue Squad, Clinton Rescue, Flemington Rescue, High Bridge Rescue, Clinton Rescue, Peapack-Gladstone Rescue and medics from Robert Wood Johnson Hospital Somerville.
