HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - Safe+Sound Somerset has been awarded a $1,000 grant from Investors Foundation to help further its mission of empowering survivors of domestic abuse and engaging the community to break the cycle of violence.
The 5-day SPEAK™ Teen Leadership Camp was presented by Safe+Sound Somerset in three Somerset County locations in Basking Ridge, Somerville and Bound Brook to provide high school students with the tools to address bullying and dating violence, and build an environment that fosters healthy relationships.
Students fine-tuned their leadership skills while collaborating on a final showcase project. According to Joelle Piercy, SPEAK™ Outreach Coordinator, “We are grateful for the support of our community partners like Investors Foundation who make programs like these possible. New to the camps this year, each week featured guest speakers including local government leaders and youth change makers.”
As shared by one camp participant in a thank you note to a guest speaker, “I learned a lot about how to be an effective leader, and you have inspired me to try to get my voice heard in my community.”
About Safe+Sound Somerset and SPEAK™ is the only private, non-profit agency in Somerset County providing comprehensive services to survivors of domestic abuse and their families.
