HIGH POINT, NC - The Somerset Patriots (5-5, 47-33) used a late home run to top the High Point Rockers (5-6, 46-35) 4-1 Sunday afternoon at BB&T Point.
The game remained scoreless through the first four innings before the Patriots broke through in the fifth. Edwin Espinal blooped a one-out double down the left field line and later scored on a Scott Kelly RBI fielder’s choice.
High Point tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a Viosergy Rosa run-scoring double-play.
Somerset regained the lead the next half inning on a two-out, three-run home run off the bat of Will Kengor (9).
Tyler Cloyd tossed a scoreless sixth inning in his return, setting the stage for Jonathan Cheshire (S, 4) to lock down the game with a scoreless seventh. Cloyd had started the season on the Patriots' roster before he was signed by Sattle Mariners and assigned the team's AAA Tacoma Rainiers.
Rick Teasley (W, 2-0) surrendered just one run over five innings with four strikeouts to earn the win. Brian Clark (L, 1-2) allowed three runs over one inning of relief to take the loss.
The Patriots will have Monday off before beginning a three-game set at Clipper Magazine Stadium against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Tuesday.
