HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - William Gillette, a sophomore at Hillsborough High School, was the first place finisher at the 2018 Somerset County YMCA Hillsborough Hop 5k Run held Saturday, June 2nd.
On what turned out to be a sunny, but very humid, morning the 16-year-old bested the field of more than 750 with a time of 18:39. At sixteen years, two months, and one day, William became the youngest first place finisher in the 17-year history of the 3.1 mile road race.
He is a three-season runner at the high school, competing in Cross Country, Winter Track, and Spring Track.
The Hillsborough Hop is an annual event that helps raise funds for the YMCA to make sure their programs and services are available to all, regardless of income. The race brings families and the community together in a fun race that encourages everyone to strive for and reach a personal goal.
The day also includes the Healthy Hillsborough Health and Wellness Fair just past the finish line in the Peter J. Biondi Municipal Complex.
