HILLSIDE, NJ - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials on Friday announced the ramp from Hillside Avenue to Route 22 eastbound reopened to traffic Friday afternoon following the completion of emergency bridge repairs in Hillside, Union County.

The emergency repairs were required after an oversized tractor trailer traveling on Route 22 westbound struck the Hillside Avenue ramp overpass in August.  At the time, the eastern half of the overpass was closed for reconstruction as part of a project that began in 2019.  NJDOT engineers conducted a structural evaluation, and repair work was completed on an accelerated schedule.

Work to reconstruct the overpass continues, and the Route 22 eastbound traffic will not be able to access Hillside Avenue using the overpass until summer 2021.
