HILLSIDE, NJ – The Hillside High football team keeps making history in its undefeated 2018 season.
On Saturday, the Comets overwhelmed Manasquan with an explosive fourth quarter to score a 36-10 win and securing the school its first back-to-back NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 2 championships.
Hillside (11-0), winner of 15 straight dating back to last season, will make history again on Dec. 1 when it competes in the first-ever NJSIAA South Jersey Bowl set for a 4 p.m. kickoff at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
In the first year of the new playoff format, sectional champions square off in “Bowl” games to decide North and South crowns in each group.
The Comets are set to meet another undefeated team, Haddonfield (11-0), the South Jersey, Group 2 champion.
In Hillside’s game at home Saturday for the sectional title, the Comets held a slim 14-10 lead over Manasquan heading into the fourth quarter. But Jahon Moore’s 7-yard touchdown run and a 40-yard interception return for a TD by strong safety Shadon Willis keyed a 22-point final quarter for the Comets.

Hillside received a two-yard TD keeper from quarterback Gavin Melendez in the first quarter. Melendez followed with a 34-yard scoring pass to two-way player Willis in the second quarter.
Also coming up big for Hillside coach Barris Grant was Nahree Biggs, who came up with a clutch interception to thwart a Manasquan drive.
