HILLSIDE, NJ---The public is invited to join as the Freeholder Board, local and State officials will dedicate and rename the County’s Liberty Avenue Park to Charlotte DeFilippo Park in honor of the former Freeholder, Township of Hillside clerk and civic leader on Saturday, October 5th at 10 a.m.

DeFilippo who was born, raised and lived all of her life in Hillside, died in 2017. She lived on Liberty Avenue while attending school in Hillside, before moving to another address in town.

DeFilippo was a trailblazer whose governmental and civic career spanned six decades at the local and county government levels.

Later in life, she served for more than a decade as the Director of the Union County Improvement Authority where she worked to create a legacy of public projects that transformed both Union County and its municipal governments and provided service to all citizens at every level of society.

A brief ceremony and unveiling of the park’s new sign will be held at the corner of the park directly next to the Hillside Shopping Plaza on Liberty Avenue.

Charlotte DeFilippo Park is located directly across from Hillside High School. The scenic park is set beside the Elizabeth River and contains a softball field and basketball court. Parking is available in shopping center plaza, and Hillside High School across the street.
