More than 50 years after the Friendly Sons of St Patrick of Union County NJ was first organized, we continue to support local charitable organizations and provide scholarships to young men of Irish ancestry. The Union County Chapter was established in 1962 with Joseph Higgins as president. Steeped in tradition and history, The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Union County, NJ was founded on a commitment to benevolence and volunteerism. It performs these duties in the form of scholarships and through events and activities. The Friendly Sons of St Patrick has been an active, vibrant organization within the community. Members meet monthly to conduct society business and share fellowship and experiences of common heritage. We are one of the oldest, longest lasting Irish Organizations in the County.

The Society began in Philadelphia in 1771 in the midst of the formation of our country. Earliest members include many influential patriots who were devoted to the cause of liberty. Among the honorary members of the first meeting were John Dickenson, Robert Morris, who later signed the Declaration of Independence, and General George Washington. The first president was General Stephen Moylan, who was a private secretary to General George Washington. Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin frequented these early meetings of The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.

The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Union County, NJ is an organization comprised of men of Irish Descent, who are business owners, executives, professionals, firefighters, police officers, carpenters, laborers and all-around leaders of their communities and throughout New Jersey. We are seeking individuals who are of good moral character of Irish Descent interested in furthering the philanthropic and economic interests of The Friendly Sons of St Patrick of Union County.
