Hillside Public Schools will host the 20th annual commemoration program honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Saturday, January 18, 2020. The program will be held in the auditorium of Hillside High School, 1085 Liberty Avenue in Hillside and will begin at 11:00 a.m.
This year’s theme, “When We Let Freedom Ring,” delivers a timely message to our educational community and the community-at-large. Dr. King taught that “when we allow freedom to ring from every village and hamlet, from every state and every city,” we will be able to value unity, tolerance and love above all else.
The program will include an array of performances including vocal, dramatic and dance presentations by Hillside students from all grade levels. Invited guests include Hillside Township Mayor and Council, Senator Cryan, Union County Legislator and Freeholders, parents and community members.
School Board President, Ms. Kimberly Cook shared the following statement: “The annual celebration provides an opportunity to reflect on the purpose with which Dr. King lived his life. Hillside Public Schools join the nation in commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. King and honor his commitment to peace in the pursuit of justice and equality for all.”
