HILLSIDE, NJ - At approximately 9:22 a.m. Thursday, the Hillside Senior Citizen bus was hit by a Hyundai Sonata, causing the bus drive to lose control and hit a utility pole, police say. Twelve bus riders were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
According to the police, the preliminary investigation determined the driver of the Hyundai disregarded the stop sign at Long avenue as the bus was traveling south on Central Avenue. The car then struck the rear right side of the bus near the bumper, causing the bus driver to lose control and strike a nearby utility pole. There were no injuries to the driver of the Hyundai. The bus is currently unable to move due to the live electrical wires.
The crash remains under investigation.
