HILLSIDE, NJ - Mayor Dahlia Vertreese will host a dinner Friday Dec. 20, at the Hillside Community Center in honor of Hillside High School’s NJSIAA Group II Regional State Championship Football team, and Coach Barris Grant being named the New York Giants and Gatorade 2019 Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Year, the Township of Hillside announced.
The Comets finished the season with a perfect 12-0 record and won their third consecutive sectional title under Grant with a come-from-behind victory over top-seeded West Deptford, 14-10 in the NJSIAA South Jersey Championship game. The team went on to defeat Cedar Creek 25-3 in the NJSIAA Group II Regional Championship at Rutgers University’s SHI Stadium.
“To go undefeated is an outstanding achievement and a testament to the young men and their coach, Barris Grant,” Vertreese said. “Hillside is proud of this special group of players, coaches and everyone associated with the program. I’m pleased to recognize their efforts.”
The dinner is for all the coaches, team members and parents and family members. It will be held from 6 pm-to-9 pm at the Hillside Community Center, 274 Hillside Ave., Hillside, NJ.
