HOBOKEN, NJ - A Sunday driver from Staten Island found himself on the wrong side of a lot of things as he was arrested for reckless driving and DWI after allegedly heading west on an eastbound street in the heart of Hoboken's hospitality district.
At about 9:19 p.m. on Sunday, Detective Ryan Houghton and Detective Bret Globke said that watched as a Jeep Cherokee went the wrong way on a one way on 3rd Street from River Street to Hudson Street.
Officers located the vehicle traveling southbound on Hudson Street, and conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of 94 Hudson Street, at which point Detective Houghton believed the operator to be under the influence of alcohol.
Officer Marco Grossmann responded and conducted a field sobriety test and determined that Joseph Martucci, 35, was unable to safely operate a motor vehicle. Martucci was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated.
At police headquarters, Martucci refused to provide a breath sample and was issued a summons for Refusal to Submit to Chemical Testing. Martucci was also issued summonses for Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, and Wrong Way on One Way.
He was released to a responsible party. Defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
