HOBOKEN - A man who has subsequently been identified as a Jersey City Police Officer was arrested in Hoboken for charges related to driving while intoxicated.

On Thursday, June 18 at 11:36 AM, Sergeant Steven Kranz observed a white Toyota driving through a street that was closed off with traffic cones due to construction. The driver ended up dragging cones as he drove south near 6th and Jefferson Street.

Hugh McDonnell, 36, of Jersey City failed a field sobriety test was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. Breath samples indicated that his blood alcohol content was above the legal limit.

McDonnell received two motor vehicle summons, one for Driving While Intoxicated and Operating a Motor Vehicle on a Closed Public Roadway. McDonnell was released to a responsible party.

McDonnell has reportedly been a member of the Jersey City Police Department for less than a year.

Defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
