HOBOKEN, NJ - On Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at 6:51 PM, Officer Shelby Seickendick and Officer Michael Aviles met with a female victim after her cellphone was snatched out of her hand by a male on a bicycle. The incident occurred in the area of 8th and Clinton Street, and although the female victim yelled out to a nearby bicyclist for help, apparently the bicyclist was an accomplice.
After an investigation, Lt. Michael Costello apprehended one of the alleged perpetrators in the area of 15th and Willow Avenue, while the second male had fled the area. Jose Cereno-Delrio, 19, Passaic, was arrested for Theft and Conspiracy to Commit Theft. The victim’s cellphone was found in the area of 16th and Clinton Street on the ground.
Meanwhile, Hoboken Police Communications received a call at about 6:25 PM of a theft committed by two individuals on bicycles. Officer Kyle Seper responded and met with the victim near 7th and Hudson Street, who reported that he was checking the weather forecast on his cellphone when a male on a bicycle snatched his cellphone out of his hands. That victim also stated that there was a second bicyclist.
An investigation determined that Cereno-Delrio was involved in the commission of this theft and was subsequently charged with two counts of Theft and two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Theft.
Charges were placed on a warrant, and the defendant was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility Jail. The second perpetrator will face the same charges if and when he is apprehended.
The defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
