The Newark Avenue beach gazebo that was a gathering place for family, friends and community members during the search and recovery effort is now a memorial for Robison.

At about 2:45 p.m. on September 1, the Spring Lake police and lifeguards responded to two juvenile swimmers in distress off the Brighton Avenue beach. While a bystander was able to reach the female victim, identified as his sister, who was brought to shore with the assistance of lifeguards, Robison — could not be located.

Spring Lake was assisted in the air, sea and land effort, which stretched along the borough’s beachfront, by some 80 lifeguards, first-responders and law enforcement members from the New Jersey State Police, U.S. Coast Guard, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, Belmar, Spring Lake Heights, Sea Girt, Manasquan and Wall.
