TRENTON, NJ — Overnight repaving of six miles of Route 18 — from Texas Road in Marlboro to Rues Lane in East Brunswick — will begin tomorrow July 30, according to the N.J. Department of Transportation.

Temporary lane changes will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. to make way for the resurfacing work by Earle Asphalt Co. of Wall. The $14.2 million federally funded project is expected to be completed in late fall 2019.

Designed to improve safety and traffic flow, the work will include roadway milling and paving, guide-rail upgrades, curb replacement, installation of 41 ramps that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act standards, and construction of 1,000 linear feet of new and reconstructed sidewalks, DOT said in a press release.

In addition, pedestrian safety systems, including four camera-monitored signalized intersections with pedestrian push-buttons and countdown signals, will be installed where needed, it stated.

The Route 18 project begins south of Texas Road in Marlboro, Monmouth County, and continues north to Rues Lanes through Old Bridge and East Brunswick in Middlesex County.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Real-time travel information is available on DOT's traffic information website and DOT news is posted on Twitter and on Facebook.
