Feel The Sting: Big Win for Holmdel Hornets Football with a 17-12 Buzzing Over The Kenilworth Bears

HOLMDEL, N.J. - Predicting a winning season ahead, Holmdel Hornets Varsity Football Team, led by Coach Jeff Rainess and key assistant coaches, ended the evening with an important first game win over the Bears at David Brearly High School in Kenilworth. Their next big matchup is against Monmouth on September 9th.

The game was held at Ward Field in Kenilworth, with a kickoff time of 6 p.m. the final score of the game was 17-12.

Brearly, a tough competitor in high school football, nearly came back and brought the game to a nail biting 17-12 score with Holmdel Hornets still coming out on top.

Alex Unanski kicked a field goal over 20 yards in the second quarter, setting the tone for the evening. The team continued to work with synergy. Dean Gallo added another touchdown run late in the third quarter making the score 10-0. Mike Ramos of Brearly got the Bears back in the game with a 10-yard touchdown run in the fourth. However, LaMountain's touchdown run for over 40 yards in the fourth quarter cinched the game as Brearly Bears could not make it back in time. They did score at a few minutes left with a touchdown pass to Jordan Stewart. This brought the score to 17-12. The try for a two point conversion did not materialize for them as the pass was incomplete. Game over.

Defensive standout performances from Brandon Saghafi and Dan Tempone who, with their defensive line, made the Bears offensive drives difficult the entire evening.

This season opener took Holmdel Hornets on the road and there must have been electricity in the bus. The Holmdel Hornets Football Team and their powerful Holmdel Cheerleaders made a serious impression the moment they stepped out on the field. Holmdel Cheerleaders are led by Coach Melissa Menges.

A Game One Win changes the metrics of an entire season for local football teams. It helps drive them further to succeed and are important elements in a fast moving sport. Holmdel supporters who made the away trip left the parking lots with huge smiles and the feeling that on this night, everyone worked together and can boast that they definitely did have #OARSIN. Everyone in Holmdel feels #EARNTHERIGHT energy.

#OARSIN represent the spirit of teamwork for 2017.

The Bears are serious competitors and fought with everything they had to take a home a win. They came close but could not withstand the force of a team that came to sting in 2017. In life, we learn and improve by both winning and losing.

Tonight the win goes to the Holmdel Hornets.
