HOLMDEL, NJ - On Friday, the Holmdel Board of Education issued a "Statement of Solidarity" with the Asian-American community:
“Last year, the Holmdel Board of Education, acting on public feedback, intensified its ongoing examination of our diversity and inclusion activities within the district, which included a review of our curriculum, school, and workplace standards. We are pleased by our past efforts and our commitment to continue our momentum going forward. In light of this commitment, the Board is disheartened by the acts of violence, bias and hatred demonstrated against multiple ethnic and racial groups in recent months, most recently a spike in anti-Asian acts. Holmdel is blessed to have a vibrant Asian community, and we wanted to reinforce publicly our District’s commitment to embrace and celebrate diversity and to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for everyone. To the members of our community that have been impacted by the recent spike in anti-Asian acts, please know we stand by you and are here to support you.”
The Members of the Holmdel Board of Education for 2021 are:
President Vicky Flynn
Vice President Mike Sockol
Board Members Eileen Briamonte, Brian Foster, Linda Zhang, Elizabeth Urbanski, Joe Hammer, Peter Reddy and Terence Wall
The statement was delivered to all parents in the district. Holmdel Township's population is nearly 20% Asian-American.
