HOLMDEL, N.J. - A morning of business success stories, healthy Frutta Bowl delights, and positive networking was on the agenda recently at the November 28th meeting of the Holmdel Chamber of Commerce. Held at Bell Works in Holmdel, around 50 business people attended. Successful businesses present included Mortgage Banking, Realtors, Fashion, Healthcare, Marketing, Publishing, Technology, Finance, Hospitality, Personal Care, Photography, Music, Film, Fitness, Insurance and many more. The Chamber continues to grow on a hyperlocal basis at 

While Holmdel Chamber members and many Bell Works employees entered the building that morning many commented that they were immediately put into a 'feel good state of mind', as Holmdel's Al Aloisi festively played the grand piano in the main entrance of the lobby (in addition to playing the piano professionally Aloisi is the founder of Alfred Aloisi Associates, a Holmdel Chamber member himself, Aloisi's company offers benefits consulting, insurance and financial services. Many folks grabbed a coffee from the Booskerdoo Coffee Roastery located in Bell Works, and began business networking while enjoying the fresh fruits and healthy dips from hospitality sponsor Frutta Bowls of Colts Neck. Frutta Bowls Owner comments, "I love the Holmdel Chamber meetings. This is only my second meeting and I have already made so many great business connections."  Since the meeting was held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, it also had special meaning. The day was national  #GIVINGTUESDAY, an opportunity for a growing Chamber to showcase various worthy charitable causes in our community. They included:

1. Bridges at the Shore - A Holmdel based charity that delivers necessities to Bayshore area families in need.

2. Lunch Break in Red Bank -- A Red Bank based charity that helps families in need in Monmouth County

3. Collier Youth Services - A very special place that helps young children and teens in great need during a critical time in their lives.

4. Holmdel Foundation for Educational Excellence - support of the Holmdel  schools.

5. Hope for Children Foundation --

The special guest speakers for the Chamber meeting were local entrepreneurs, Alexis Castellano of Holmdel and her partner Jill Slater of Marlboro. Their company was recently featured on theSKIMM's Get of the Coach episode and Holmdel Chamber members were able to view the segment before their presentation started. The company FASTEN has come so far in such a short time. It began with Alexis and Jill who in their words are "always looking for ways to make ‘mommyhood’ easier." They decided to take a leap and not only came up with the idea of using magnets to fasten children’s clothing but they designed the proto-type and then managed to bring it to the manufacturing and distribution stage in a very short period of time.  The magnet technology is sewn underneath the clothing for easy fastening. Now their FASTEN designs are not only revolutionizing swimsuits but now also modernizing dance clothing for young girls and customers are loving it! Owner of Colts Neck Dance and Performing Arts Academy Sheri Ladley Calamusa says, “We carry items from FASTEN’s dance line in our studio and since the day we displayed the FASTEN products there has been a ton of interest! It makes getting children in and out of dance clothing simple. Parents are always looking to solve small inconveniences and FASTEN products can guarantee that will happen.

When asked what inspires them most? Jill comments, “Other women business owners are my inspiration. I’ve been so inspired by the incredible community of women in business and how supportive we are for each other. It’s an amazing network of women who get up every day and are trying to build something.”  Alexis quickly adds, “My daughters are my inspiration. I’m doing what I’m doing because I believe so passionately in our products, and I want my girls to know that whether we would succeed or not, we have already succeeded by not letting this idea go. We took an idea and turned it into something substantial. I have this book that was given to me by Heather Rodale, my mentor at Lehigh University. It’s called ‘Joseph Had a Little Overcoat’ by Simms Taback. I read it to my girls often. It's about making something out of nothing. I want our girls to look at us and think, '"Wow, I can make something out of nothing too.”

The FASTEN story is a great one to talk to our children about. It’s about two moms who meet and form an immediate friendship bonding over their parenting and sharing their experiences of taking care of their children.  During their presentation at Bell Works, they discussed their journey and were able to answer many different and interesting questions.
