HOLMDEL, NJ - The official Republican ballot has been mailed to local voters in Holmdel, and it appears that a very busy primary election is underway.

The local candidates running for two seats are:

  • Eric Hinds - Incumbent
  • Kimberly LaMountain
  • Mike Nikolas - Incumbent
  • Nick Teeteli
  • Chiung-Yin Liu

At the top of the ticket is former Middletown Mayor and current Monmouth County Freeholder Gerald Scharfenberger. His running mate is current Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso. They are running unopposed in the primary. Also running unopposed is Sheriff Shaun Golden, Freeholder Director Tom Arnone and new candidate for Freeholder; Dominick DiRocco.

Running in separate columns are Kimberly LaMountain, Nicholas Teeteli and Michael Nikolis.

Incumbent Nikolis is experiencing an unusual situation as an incumbent Deputy Mayor. He is on the ballot in the fourth column. He is not on the Monmouth County Republican Organization line. Nikolas shared on his facebook page that a 'schism' has developed since he had a split vote in his favor with the local county committee. That vote did not translate into county support.

Nikolas does enjoy strong support from Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso. Mayor Eric Hinds and Chung-Yin Liu have received the blessing of the Monmouth County Republican Organization and are 'on the line'. LaMountain and Teeteli have no prior elected experience according to available information.

Chung-Yin Liu, current member and former Vice President of the Holmdel School Board, would make history if elected. She would be the first Asian-American female Township Committeewoman in Holmdel history, should she prove victorious.

The primary election is held Tuesday, June 4.
