Holmdel Superintendent Announces Resignation - will be Assistant Superintendent in Scotch Plains-Fanwood
Holmdel, NJ – Earlier today, Superintendent Dr. Robert McGarry informed the Holmdel Township Board of Education that he is resigning his position, effective August 26, 2020. Dr. McGarry has accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Public School District.
During his six-year tenure in Holmdel, Dr. McGarry actively participated in a number of educational initiatives that led to smaller class sizes; enhanced technology capabilities; additional artistic, academic and athletic programs; the opening of a new all-day kindergarten program; and a growing focus on mental well-being and physical safety for students and staff. In addition, he and his administration have dedicated numerous hours overseeing district-wide renovations financed by the Holmdel 2020 bond referendum, which is expected to be complete this fall.
Under his watch, the Holmdel Township School District received many honors, including certification as a Future Ready District and a High-Performing District by the New Jersey Department of Education.
"We appreciate Dr. McGarry’s willingness to remain in the district as we plan for the next school year under the shadow of the COVID pandemic and its aftermath. In the meantime, we are blessed to have strong 'bench strength' within our district as the Board moves quickly to identify new leadership to maintain our current momentum and develop future strategies to ensure that we continue to 'innovate to elevate' in everything we do, stated Victoria Flynn, Holmdel Board of Education President.
Details regarding the search for Dr. McGarry's replacement are forthcoming and will be shared with the community when available.
