HOLMDEL, NJ -  The Holmdel Theatre Company is thrilled to welcome and introduce Kathy Connolly as the company’s new Artistic Director. Connolly began her journey with the company in August of this year, taking the baton from previous Artistic Director, Laurie Devino.

Devino started with the company in 2011 as an actor, later moving up to assume the role of Artistic Director. Devino held the role for the five years leading up to Connolly’s selection, and personally helped prepare Connolly for the role.

“I am super thankful to Laurie, she has been an amazing help through the transition,” Connolly said.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Connolly began studying and performing theater at the age of nine. Her journey began at her hometown’s very own Pittsburgh Playhouse, Point Park University’s performing arts center.

Connolly would later attend New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. During her time at NYU, Connolly also studied in the Stella Adler Conservatory and CAP21 Conservatory.

“I was fortunate enough to work with professionals on stage and as a student, and it’s very important to me to carry on this tradition at Holmdel Theatre Company,” Connolly said.

Following college, Connolly racked up years of experience as an actor and director, producing and performing over 60 plays around the country in both regional and national tours, not least of which including a run on Broadway with Kenny Rogers. After settling in Middletown, NJ, Connolly began directing musicals and teaching acting in the local area. For the past 15 years, she has taught and directed in schools throughout the Holmdel/Middletown area.

In addition to her involvement in the local academic theater scene, Connolly also teaches and directs shows at the Middletown Arts Center and works as a teaching artist at the Two River Theater in Red Bank.

“I look forward to growing the theater with new professionals, community awareness, and student collaboration,” she said. “We will be doing Youth Theatre that will kick off with a staged reading in the spring.”

Connolly brings with her years of experience in all aspects of theater, which will aid her in performing her vast duties as Artistic Director. Her day to day tasks and goals for the Holmdel Theatre Company include selecting and overseeing the creative team for all productions, creating the season, collaborating with the board on fundraising ideas and events, connecting the theater with Holmdel schools, welcoming new artists and collaborations, and raising the professional level of the theater.

“I am very excited to bring some new artists to Holmdel Theatre Company this season and to work with the wonderful talent that already exists,” Connolly said. “I hope to use my connections with the schools to help connect the theater with its Holmdel community. It truly is a local gem.”

Connolly’s determination and talent will be demonstrated in the upcoming month with the company’s highly anticipated “Cabaret Gala” on October 1st and the premiere of their production of “You Can’t Take It with You” on October 26.
