HOLMDEL, NJ - The Holmdel 10u travel basketball team just won the mid monmouth travel league championship this past Sunday for the 3rd year in a row.

The Hornets entered the playoffs as the 2 seed and beat Manasquan in the first round 46 to 26. The next game vs Tinton Falls as the 3 seed and was a barn burner and came down to the last second shot that was off the mark and the Hornets won 39-37.  

The Hornets played Jackson in the semi finals and won 46-33 and made it back to the championship game on Sunday 3/10/19. We played Manalapan in the finals and won 43-21.

The goal for any competitive basketball team is to play your best team basketball in the playoffs!

Coming into this new travel season, teams from all over Monmouth and Ocean county experienced the Holmdel 10u team as the team to beat.

They opened the 2019 season vs Wall and were leading the entire game until the wheels came off the bus with 1 minute left and lost the game which ended their 28 league  game win streak and shook them up, according to coaching staff.

"We learned a lot about our team and coaches and corrected our mistakes in practice and moved on. We never looked back and ripped off 10 straight regular season games and earned the 2 seed for this years playoffs. These same boys have earned  the reputation in central NJ that Holmdel travel basketball is on the rise bringing home championship s year after year!" Said Coach Scott Cannon.

Two other Holmdel teams also won the league championship. Said Cannon, "Congrats to our 9u boys and 12u girls. Our 10u boys team is 63-3 in 3 seasons and we close out our season later this week in the Hazlet tournament where we are attempting to 3 peat by winning the tournament for the 3rd year in a row. The boys are representing our town of Holmdel in a first class manner while creating life long memories and making history along the way!"
