HOLMDEL, N.J. - During the Township Committee meeting on Tuesday, Deputy Mayor, Dr. Rocco Pascucci, resigned his role as Deputy Mayor.  He intends to remain on as a Township Committeeman. The news appeared to come as a surprise to the other members of the Township Committee.

He served as Deputy to Mayor Tom Critelli. The positions of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the Township Committee form of government are largely ceremonial. The Mayor chairs the meetings and the Deputy Mayor chairs the meetings in the event the Mayor is absent.  The 5 elected officials share equal power.

At the next Township Committee meeting, the members can appoint a new Deputy Mayor for the balance of calendar year. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are chosen from the 5 sitting elected officials. Committeeman Pascucci did not provide any further comment or reason for resigning the role.
