HomeTown News with TapInto Holmdel, Colts Neck and Middletown,  is pleased to announce our new writer, Ted Calabrese. Ted was born and raised in New York City and moved to Monmouth County nearly two years ago. Calabrese says, "I'm really looking forward to covering local news on various community and business topics for HomeTown News and its TAPinto publications. I love the hyperlocal model and the online platform. I'm excited to be a part of the TAPinto ecosystem."

Ted attended Hackley School in Tarrytown, NY before attending Gettysburg College, in Gettysburg, PA, where he graduated with Honors in classical studies. Ted also focused his studies on Philosophy and English Literature.  However, his love of writing started much earlier. When he was 10, Ted was published in the New York Times for a piece he contributed to an article called 'New York’s Neediest Cases'. He wrote about why he wanted to donate money saved from his (modest) allowance to those less fortunate over the holidays. "I have always been fascinated by the power of words, and how they can create places and worlds, that can exist only on the pages of a book or movie script, and yet they have the power to instantly transport the reader to them."

After college, Ted spent a year in the Middle East, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Hong Kong. He chronicled his travels and adventures, in daily journals. He later turned his notes into a travel novel called, Fort Jumping, which recounts his experiences, from the harrowing to the humorous, traveling abroad as a lone American. Ted is still looking for an agent for what can be called his labor of love. Should anyone have any ideas, Ted would love to hear them.

In Sri Lanka, Ted met a woman from the Bay Area, and as goes the story we’ve all heard before, he followed her home. Ted spent the next year in Oakland, CA. According to Ted, he could write a book about that, the town and his relationship! When his foreign spawned romance invariably didn’t work out – reality, the relationship killer, set in – Ted returned to the City, and attended New York Law School.

After graduating from law school and passing the New York Bar Exam, Ted began his career in business development, marketing and sales at law and financial services firms, in the City. That career also took him to the Cayman Islands, where he lived and worked for some time. "I got married, had two beautiful kids, got divorced, got remarried, had a third beautiful kid, and got divorced, after following my second wife to the Middletown area, all while writing the whole time. I am extremely proud of my three children and love being a Dad."

Ted is an experienced writer in the fields of legal, business, marketing, creative, etc. and will be writing on various topics for TapInto Holmdel, Colts Neck and Middletown, including Law & Justice, Business, Government & Politics, Restaurants & Food, Sports, Parenting, and last but not least, Popular Culture. "My first piece will the opening installment of a column I am writing for TAPinto, on the rollercoaster ride that is online dating in the present day. While not the easiest journey, online dating can be quite comical at times. I didn’t plan on being a bachelor at 41, I have two strikes, but I'm not out of the game just yet!"

Welcome aboard, Ted, we are happy to have you!
