MIDDLETOWN, NJ - According to the Middletown Police Department, the pedestrian killed as the result of being struck by a car, at the intersection of Route 35 and Navesink River Road Tuesday evening, has been identified as William McAvoy, 62.
McAvoy, a Middletown resident, died after being struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes of Route 35, according to Middletown PD.
Police responded to the incident at 7:53 p.m. McAvoy died at the scene as a result of his injuries, according to Middletown Twp. Police. The driver remained at the scene of the incident, and it is reported that charges have not been filed.
Route 35 northbound was closed for much Tuesday evening beginning on the other side of the Navesink River in Red Bank while police investigated. The incident remains under investigation.
