On Sunday, April 28th from 12 noon to 5pm, plan the entire afternoon at this wonderful FREE Festival which features professional shows and nature crafts for children, great live rock bands and folk singers, guided tours of the historic farmhouse and property, and many exhibits by great environmental organizations. Bayonet Farm is an idyllic location for this educational and fun “rain or shine” event, as all performances take place inside handsome preserved barns.
Littlest visitors will love meeting farm friends at the Petting Zoo. A special presentation for school-aged children by Eyes of The Wild’s “Mammal Mania” will introduce some unusual and very cute furry “rescues,” while teaching about their traits and habitats. Kids will laugh-out-loud while cartooning with the very amusing, talented and locally famous “Doodle Dude!” “What’s the Buzz with Bees” is an encore presentation that was very well received, last year. Learn about the vital importance of the little dynamos and see a real live bee hive up-close! Don’t miss the nature crafts and grab a great lunch between shows!
There will be plenty for grown-up guests to enjoy, as well! Live locally popular rock bands and folk musicians will perform at the Red Barn Theater all afternoon. Exhibits under the Big Top will help you “Go Green!” from your own back yard to the planet beyond. Tours of the Bayonet Farm home, the gracious Laura Harding House, will evoke an earlier era when this most interesting gentlewoman farmer and philanthropist hosted movie stars of the day. Family-friendly walking tours of the property will enhance your visit, as well.
For those who would like to join a hike along Holmdel’s scenic Greenway prior to the festival, please park at the trailhead lot at the Holmdel Park Ramanessin Section on Roberts Road, opposite the Arboretum. The hike commences at 10am and arrives at Bayonet Farm in time for the Festival.
Plan on meeting friends for delicious home-made sandwiches, hot dogs, freshly baked treats, hot coffee and lots more at the Red Barn Deli! Proceeds from the Deli go towards future festivals.
Admission, parking, shows, crafts and tours are all FREE! (Nominal charge for the Petting Zoo.) Tickets for the Guided Tours are limited. Please visit the Welcome Center for tickets, programs, raffles and other free items to start your day.
