Today, the Holmdel Township Education Association (HTEA) issued a response to the press release previously issued by the Holmdel Board of Education to Holmdel parents:
STATEMENT FROM HTEA:
The Holmdel Township Education Association (HTEA) and Holmdel Board of Education have been negotiating since last spring without success. After meeting several times, it became apparent that the Board was unwilling to negotiate. Drawing a line in the sand and refusing to cross is NOT negotiations.
As you may know, under Chapter 78 HTEA members have been paying a significant portion of their health benefits premiums. As a result, take-home pay has dropped significantly making it difficult for our members to afford to teach here. HTEA is seeking a contract that will allow the district to continue to attract and retain the best educators for our students. The contract between the Board and HTEA expired June 30, 2019. HTEA members have been working under the terms of this expired contract.
We are looking forward to our first mediation session on Nov. 25 with a state-appointed neutral.
