Albert Zofchak of Holmdel, New Jersey passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022. Born March 9. 1939 in Carteret, New Jersey he was raised in Carteret and attended St. Mary’s High School in South Amboy. He graduated from Seton Hall University with a degree in Chemistry in 1961. His love and passion for science would lead to a long and successful 60-year career as a chemist, technical sales representative and to eventually founding his own company, Alzo International Inc, in 1974. As the inventor of dozens of patents his family-owned company remains today a leader in the development of specialty chemical ingredients used in cosmetic and personal care products by major companies around the world.
He was predeceased by his parents Barbara and Michael Zofchak as well as his brothers Paul Zofchak and Edward Zofchak and his sister, Mary Dulemba. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce and his children, Carolyn Zofchak, Albert Zofchak, Jr. and his wife, Gretchen Jantz, and Michelle Bakos. He leaves behind four grandchildren Jordan Bellani and husband, Steven, Robert Albert Spruce and wife, Stephanie, Hillary Spruce and Steven Zofchak; three great grandchildren, Colton, Hudson and Robert and his nieces and nephews Edward Zofchak, Susan Zofchak, Michael Dulemba and Diane Wurzburger.
Al was well known to and respected by his industry peers, colleagues, and thousands of customers many of whom had come to be his friends.
He was enthusiastic in his support of the pursuit to find a cure for spinal injuries and donated to various medical and university organizations and programs that continue in this research. Mr. Zofchak was also a key supporter of the Castle of Dreams Animal Rescue and was instrumental in them securing their recently opened shelter facility in Aberdeen, New Jersey. Albert’s spare time was spent with his family making precious memories.
Although his passing is a tremendous loss for his family, friends, employees and associates, he leaves behind a legacy of a man who worked hard and achieved success but understood the importance and accepted responsibility to help and support others.
Visitation Friday, January 28, 3:00 – 5:00 pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Entombment will be Saturday, January 29th, 1:00 pm at St. Gertrude Cemetery, 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia.
