HOLMDEL, NJ — The year 2020 has been an emotional roller coaster. Locals can now take a short break from reality and immerse themselves at “In The Clouds,” a new pop-up balloon exhibit at Bell Works.

“In The Clouds” was installed in late October, but had its official opening on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. The Bell Works’ creative team invited guests to take photos in front of the shimmering silver backdrop, and treat themselves to complimentary giveaways.

The Creative Director of Bell Works, Paola Zamudio, and local business owner, Melissa McGregor, of Maison de Balloons, collaborated to create this unique experience. Zamudio said the pop-up balloon installation was inspired by “Silver Clouds,” a pop-up balloon installation from the past. “Silver Clouds” was created by Andy Warhol and Bell Labs engineer Billy Klüver in 1966.

Zamudio said she has always wanted to create a piece of art that fuses the past and the present together. She was finally able to do so with “In The Clouds,” which she said is similar to “Silver Clouds” in its simplicity but still has its own modern features that make it stand out.

For Zamudio, there is always meaning behind art. “In The Clouds” is an interactive space for people to momentarily change their ambiance and release their worries.

“Being in the clouds is kind of like taking a step back, especially with so many things going on right now,” Zamudio said.

Zamudio plans to create more pop-ups in the future because she loves how interactive they are. Rather than standing around and admiring art, people immerse themselves in an experience.

“You’re part of the art,” Zamudio said.

Families took turns taking photos and others taking selfies. TAPinto spoke with Holmdel's Shari LaRosa, LSW, MSW, Founder of Connected Mind Counseling. LaRosa commented, "This event provided a sense of community and connection which is most beneficial.  As the chill in the air sets in, Bell Works has provided a wonderland of silver, sparkles and smiles - let the child in you come out to pose as we look forward to some upcoming holiday cheer!"

Zamudio expects the pop-up balloon installation to remain in Bell Works until the end of the year.
