101 Holmdel Students Inducted Into National Honor Society

HOLMDEL, N.J. – National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. “More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character,” known as the four “pillars,” according to the national organization’s website. Current officers described each of these in very personal speeches delivered during the ceremony.

Juniors and seniors who have accumulated a grade point average of 3.66 or higher are eligible to be nominated for membership in NHS. Nominees must also demonstrate that they have completed 200 hours of service since the start of their 9th grade year and pass an extensive vetting process focused on the pillars of leadership and character.

The Holmdel High School Chapter, which was named long ago and continues to memorialize a beloved former Holmdel educator, Helen Ackerson, held its annual induction ceremony January 10th. NHS Co- Presidents Eric Celenti and Joyce Wang presented the 101 inductees and led them in the NHS Pledge as part of the evening’s proceedings.

In keeping with the spirit of the organization’s namesake, the Holmdel tradition of each inductee honoring a teacher or school staff member who has mentored them during their education was continued this year. Again this year, inductees honored teachers from all four district schools during the ceremony.  In describing this tradition, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Robert McGarry said, “We often overlook the importance of positive student-teacher relationships.” “This wonderful Holmdel tradition speaks volumes to the significant and long-lasting role that Holmdel’s teachers play in the lives our students,” he added.

The 2018 inductees include Serena Abbondante, Amanda Ahteck, Russell Alexeev, Tarek Ani, Joseph Arena, Salvatore Avitabile, Alexandra Baratta, Devyn Battaglia, McKenzie Bauman, Manel Belkacem-Boussaid, Jessica Boetticher, Amanda Bossert, Cole Brown, Michael Campanella, Annie Cao, Emily Chaimowitz, Melissa Chen, Johnny Christian, Brian Chu, Kinsey Clark, Brendan Crowley, Jessica D’Agostino, Michael Dasaro, Ryan Day, Jeff DeCicco, Daniela Del Tufo, Maria Downey, Jason Feng, Ryan Ferguson, Alexis Ferreira, Brad Friedman, Katherine Geslak, Jordan Gilbert, Alec Goldberg, Ashley Guarnaccia, Sanjana Gupta, Colin Hansen, Ginger Hansen, Megan Hansen, Alexander Hary, Kaitlyn Heyt, Katherine Ho, Audrey Hua, Alice Huang, Len Huang, Eva Marie Jaroszewski, Lindsay Kassardy, Justin Lautenberg, Tyrus Lee, Amy Li, Jerome Li, Alec Licato, Marvin Ling, Gloria Liu, Jack Lowry, Anthony Lu, Cavan Lynch, Akshay Magam, Sarah Magno, Cyrus Majd, Erin Mendini, Gabriella Menza, Shelley Merhav, Corinne Migliazza, Kyungjun Min, Emily Mundy, Tara Musialowicz, Srilekha Mutukula, Neel Patel, Samantha Pesce, Thomas Petr, Anthony Prestigiacomo, Abbey Quirk, Siena Rampulla, Gabriella Ricottone, George Rokkos, Rayna Ruggeri, Jack Russo, Hannah Sammut, Victoria Silva, Kevin Silvergold, Evan Smith, Alexa Stamatis, Julia Susi, Daniel Tempone, Cassandra Thakker, Alexander Tsai, Kathryn Tso, Chantal Varey, Olivia Wan, Jonathan Wang, Julie Wang, Samantha White, Olivia Wojtunik,  David Wu, Allison Yan, Sara Youssef, Isabel Yu, Madison Yuen, Jason Zheng, and Feifei Zhong.
