HOLMDEL, NJ - In a busy Holmdel Board of Education meeting, the board unanimously appointed Dr. Lee Seitz as Acting Superintendent. He will replace Dr. Robert McGarry who took a job in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District, NJ.  

Dr. Seitz thanked the board and public for the opportunity to serve and indicated that an immediate priority is ensuring that all the schools are ready to open for September. He will further assume duties as Interim Superintendent effective July 1, 2020. 

Seitz graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Doctorate in Education Administration. He earned a Masters of Education in Educational Administration from Lehigh University.

His public school resume is long and includes a number of diverse roles:

  • Interim Superintendent of Schools - Pequannock School District, New Jersey
  • Superintendent of Schools - Parsippany-Troy Hills School District
  • Interim Superintendent of Schools - Franklin Township
  • Superintendent - Hudson Regional High School District 
  • Superintendent - Woodbridge Township School District
  • Adjunct professor at College of St. Elizabeth

During the Wednesday meeting, the board also rehired a highly regarded third grade teacher, Heather Manochio. Manochio was not recommended for renewal by Dr. McGarry. The board's vote was unanimous. 

Other voices were also in the 'virtual' audience, particularly recent Holmdel High School graduates who asked about moving the dialogue forward on race and equity. The group previously met with administrative staff. During the public portion, a number of students expressed interest in furthering the conversation. The board shared how the process works for curriculum review. You can listen to the audio of the meeting when it is available on the school website HERE
