HOLMDEL, NJ: After several years of planning Village Elementary School opened its doors this week to its first Full Day Kindergarten class. The district previously only funded a half-day program for five year olds.

“It is incredibly rewarding to be able to offer parents the kind of program that they’ve been asking the district to put in place for a number of years and even more rewarding to know that the program we have built will provide our youngest learners an even stronger foundation for their education,” Dr. McGarry said.  Research examining the impact of full-day kindergarten found that children who attended for a full day program had better academic outcomes the following year as well as more self-confidence.

Director of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Dineen Seeley and a team of administrators and teachers worked for two years to create a child-centered, developmentally appropriate, and integrated program of learning for Holmdel’s young learners. She believes that the full day program will provide a strong foundation for growth in the early years. “I am so proud of the program we have developed and have introduced today,” Dr. Seeley said. “Our full-day program will promote the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of all students,” she explained.

Full Day Kindergarten is just one new enhancement the district is introducing this year, as the first projects related to the Holmdel 2020 Initiative are completed and the Satz Middle School introduces a new schedule and array of new elective offerings.

New Holmdel 2020 Initiative enhancements include renovated fourth grade classrooms and an expanded parking lot at Indian Hill School, a new STEAM Lab, Art Room and Gymnasium floor at Village School and new Physical Education and Athletics facilities at the William R. Satz and Holmdel High School complex. Later this Fall renovated spaces for Theatre and Dance as well as a state-of-the-art Engineering wing, Graphic Arts Lab and Television Production studio will be introduced.
