HOLMDEL, NJ - Governor Murphy, on Wednesday, signed an executive order to move the June 2 Primary Election to July 7.
"Our democracy cannot be a casualty of COVID-19. We want to ensure that every voter can vote without endangering their health or safety." stated Murphy.
There is also possibility that the voting is done completely by mail in ballot. That would make for an interesting election as it has never been done before. Murphy is aware of the possibility and said "that task becomes easier with another month."
The Township Committee election in Holmdel is also contested. There are two available seats.
The 20 member elected Holmdel Republican Municipal Committee, led by Chairwoman Marcy McMullen and backed by Monmouth County Republican Chairman and Sheriff Shaun Golden, voted to endorse two new candidates this year.
The new candidates for two seats are Holmdel Board of Education President Victoria Flynn and DJ Lucarelli. Lucarelli owned Dearborn Farms in Holmdel. They will share the same Monmouth County Republican line that President Trump will run on in July.
Incumbent Township Committeeman Greg Buontempo lost party support for another run for election this year but still plans to run. Pascucci is not running. Also on the ballot is Holmdel resident Ron Emme.
Buontempo and his new running mate have support from various elected officials based on their Facebook page. It includes Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso, former Committeeman Mike Nikolis and outgoing Committeeman Rocco Pascucci. Pascucci's and DiMaso's family members remain involved in the as yet unresolved lawsuit from last year's election between Chiung-Yin Cheng Liu and Prakash Santhana.
