Red Bank, NJ: Most people know at least 1-3 people with cancer.  What used to be a rare disease has become more prevalent.  Cancer doesn't just affect a person's physical body, but it disrupts a person's mental and emotional health -- aspects that don't get cared for through traditional medicine.

It takes a toll on your family, spouses, friendships, and affects your health, your eating style, your finances - in a nutshell -- cancer changes everything.  That's a lot to take in, especially if you don't have a strong network of positive support around you.

Today we're tapping into this subject because we've discovered two local resources that everyone should know about.  Because whether you are going through treatment or know someone who is, these resources are there at no cost to the patients.

The first is a support group called Second Chances.  This support group is open to everyone of any age, gender or type of cancer.  They meet every 3rd Tuesday at the Primerica office at 135 Monmouth Street, Suite 1B.  For more information or questions, call Tania Lisitski at (732) 450-9191. They also have an informative Facebook Group page, where people are sharing and posting cancer-related information and referrals to health care practitioners.  The next meeting Feb 18th from 6-7pm.

The second is a retreat center for women going through cancer treatment called Mary's Place by The Sea.  They offer counseling support, bodywork, Reiki treatments, nutrition and short stays at their facility in Ocean Grove, all free of charge.  They are able to offer so many services thanks to the donations they receive throughout the year.

On February 14th, there will be an event at EvenFlow Yoga here in Red Bank - 100% of the proceeds from this one-night only event will go to benefit Mary's Place.  The event is called Open Your Heart - a Love-raiser for Mary's Place.

This gentle vinyasa flow yoga class will feature live music and breathwork for an extra special way to share love with those around you on Valentine's Day. Tickets are $20 at the door.

If you have someone you care for, letting them know about the resources that they can tap into is one way to show your support.
