HOLMDEL, NJ: On Saturday, March 30th, at Bell Works, there were over 200 energized participants in the Team Vienna Walk 4 Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC). All came together to remember and celebrate the life of a precious little girl; Vienna Carly Savino, a sweetheart with a cherub like face, and beautiful joyful smile.
Tragically, in November of 2017, Vienna passed only a couple months before her 3rd birthday and her death remains unexplained. Vienna's mommy Dr. Denise Wunderler has a powerful passion, the kind that is superhuman, only held by individuals who walk the most difficult journies, in her case the unimaginable, unbearable most difficult journey of being a bereaved parent, in the group no one should have to belong to. Wunderler is on a mission to raise awareness for SUDC, help fund research to identify a cause, therefore hoping to prevent other families from bearing the life long sentence, one their family now carries.
Viennas mom Dr. Denise Wunderler comments:
"My family and I recently started a nonprofit, Team Vienna 4 SUDC Awareness Inc. The youngest member of our family, Vienna, died on 12 November 2017, due to a category of death that is shockingly unknown to the medical community—SUDC, Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. My husband and I are both physicians, and we never heard of this until our sweet, healthy 2 year old daughter Vienna stopped breathing after falling asleep on our family room carpet in Holmdel, NJ, as we were on our way home from a wedding. She was 2 months shy of 3 years old. The devastation this kind of tragedy causes a family is immeasurable and infinite.
We learned the hard way that SUDC affects healthy kids ages 1-18 years old, and is one of the most under-recognized medical tragedies of our time. Currently, there are no known causes, so no known preventions. No federal/public funding currently exists for SUDC research. Awareness is the first critical step to change all of this so these unexplained deaths will no longer be unexplained. Our nonprofit’s mission is to raise awareness and research support for SUDC, while honoring our daughter."
The walk raised over $7,000 to raise awareness and help with research funding for SUDC.
Casey DeStefano founder of VenerationME was the emcee for the event and welcomed everyone commenting, "It is a journey and we want to thank you so much for all being here...it's so wonderful to see the overwhelming love and support for Team Vienna-thank you all..." Vienna's dad Michael Savino demonstrated a stretch for the participants to warm up before the walk and then it was "1-2-3 let's walk for Vienna!!"

The event featured a 3 mile walk inside Bell Works where there were pink and blue waves of Team Vienna shirts as participants walked by. Guests were treated to a unique experience (compliments of Bell Works tenant; OasisVRX) where they could "walk the plank" in virtual reality. There was live acoustic music by Mike & Sam, and DJ Incredible Soundz Entertainment was on site to keep the walkers moving to the beat and later dancing! Waffle Cabin donated a mini sweet waffle to each participant, and The Cambridge Club of Aberdeen supplying goodies and sunglasses Children enjoyed the balloon artist; Balloon Fun Times, and the March Madness Hoops that Bell Works had set up in the atrium area.
There was a special drawing for a beautiful designer handbag from the Lauren Farrell NY Vienna Collection, Every registered participant received a Team Vienna shirt and a swag bag from business sponsors and more!
