HOLMDEL, NJ - The wait for a new administrator in Holmdel is coming to an end Tuesday night. Cherron Rountree, previously of Eatontown and Rahway, is slated to be the next Administrator.
Cherron Rountree, was only recently appointed to be Borough Administrator in Eatontown. However, the Borough of Eatontown is in political turmoil recently. Multiple elected officials resigned for various reasons. One reason included allegations of fliers suggesting that campaign donations to Democrats may result in appointments to municipal positions.
Consultants in Common
Joe Hartnett, the consultant hired by Holmdel for $10,000.00, placed Rountree in Eatontown less than a year ago. Now, after being paid to search for Holmdel, he has plucked Rountree out of that role to work in Holmdel.
Hartnett's roots go back with Rountree's and to her former role in Rahway, where she served as Administrator and Co-Founder of the Union County Democratic Women's Club.
Based on an agreement drafted by Holmdel Township Attorney Michael Collins, Rountree will earn a significant $730,000 during the duration of the four-year agreement. The compensation is as follows: 175,000, 180,000, 185,000 and 190,000. The contract drafted by Collins calls for guaranteed raises above the 2% cap each year. There does not appear to be any provision for a performance review. Regardless of the contract, state law allows for municipalities to cancel agreements with three months pay in the event four Committeemen/women choose to go in a different direction.
The former Administrator, Donna Vieiro, is still being paid full salary until the end of the year with full benefits. This was after an investigation against her came up short with no charges filed. The cost to the town was approximately $300,000.
