Chaturanga Dandasana (chah-tuur-ANGH-uh dahn-DAHS-uh-nuh) is a major component of Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and Power Yoga. Rarely referred to by its English name, Four-Limbed Staff Pose, this pose is most commonly called "Chaturanga." The full name comes from four Sanskrit words: "Chatur" — meaning "four"
COLTS NECK, NJ: On Monday evening at 6:30 p.m., the front and back parking lots at The Merchant's Plaza on route 34 in Colts Neck were full, as Hot and Soul Yoga hosted a very special event for a very special young woman. Silvia Andon, makeup artist at Red Bank's popular Lambs and Wolves salon, is only 33 years of age and was diagnosed in May, with stage 3 breast cancer.
The owner of Hot and Soul Yoga; Ginna Turnamian comments, "Lambs and Wolves is like one big family and as a client there, I've known Silvia for some time. When we heard about her battle, the Hot and Soul family wanted to do something to help somehow. So along with Lambs and Wolves' stylist Keelin Mahoney, Yoga instructor Malinda Mountzouris, who is also a Lambs and Wolves stylist, and yoga and meditative sound bath journey instructor Scott Bailey, we all decided we wanted to design something really special to show our support to Silvia and lift her up."
They did that and more as the four of them planned a Chaturangas for Cancer Event, with a suggested donation of $25 a person to help ease Silvia's financial burden. The event included Yoga by Malinda with a Sound Journey led by Scott. The class was non-hot and guests were asked to bring a yoga mat, drinking water, good energy and positive vibes to lift Silvia up.
The event opened with yoga instructor Malinda welcoming everyone and Silvia herself couragesly speaking to the group as you can see and hear in the video below. Silvia speaks about her faith in God and shares a story about a wonderful pesonalized gift of hope she received from friends:

Silvia shared a gift she received from friends that she said was the best possible gift she could receive. The Hope Box contained inspirational verses of Hope from the Bible with a paragraph of reflection on the verse. Silvia walked around the room and each person took a verse to meditate on. The event for Silvia wrapped her in a community support system where the positive healing vibes being sent her way were palpable. The overarching theme was that of love. Malinda guided the class with vinyasa style yoga and Scott Bailey, a cancer survivor himself, brought the room into a meditative state with his sound bath journey using Tibetin singing bowls and gongs. Enjoy a sample of the sound bath journey in the next video.

For many this was their first meditative sound bath and for a few it was their first yoga class experience. It was the Lambs and Wolves family joining the the Hot and Soul Yoga family, along with Silvia's husband Sergio, even a couple of Silvia's friends that had traveled over two hours for the event.
Silvia commented, "This means so much to me. I can't really put into words how much this means. I am so thankful for the support shown to me and it really makes a difference in a big way." Silvia also mentioned that she is extremely grateful to Monmouth Medical center for the medical support system they are providing her with. "I am so thankful to God for the people in my life and I am realizing I am always giving to everyone. I need to take care of myself now and I'm thankful that I have such a great hospital (Monmouth Medical) with caring doctors and nurses to help me through this difficult journey. I know I am so blessed to have the support I do."
When the event was over guests mingled outside enjoying a delicious fruit platter donated by Frutta Bowls of Colts Neck, in support of the event. It was a sweet way to end the evening as guests enjoyed an acai based bowl with granola, fresh fruit, shaved coconut, and choice of peanut butter or nutella-or both!
