HOLMDEL, NJ - On Saturday, February 1, the Jersey Shore Chinese School celebrated the Chinese New Year. This is the Year of the Rat. Based on the fantastic show, the gracious hosts and the beautiful decorations, it will be a wonderful year. Principal Jasmine Lee and the entire JSCS team shared their culture, wisdom and talents with those in attendance, and they were very much appreciated by all present.
Prior to the beginning of the show, guests began to gather and photographer's cameras were at the ready. The Jersey Shore Chinese School, a very proactive educational and cultural institution in the area, treated guests like family. In addition to the families of the school and their friends and guests, many dignitaries are sure to attend each year.
The talent show alone is a big draw and many come back every year. On hand were members from the Holmdel School Board including Senior Board of Education Member and Vice President Mike Sockol. New Board Member Elizabeth Urbanski attended along with Board Member Terence Wall. Urbanski and Wall graduated from Holmdel High School together.
The talent show started at 1:30 and at 4 o'clock a party reception was underway with lots of great Chinese food of course and also pizza and soda for the guests - a youth raffle and an adult raffle were also held with all sorts of great prizes. There was also karaoke! The talent show included various Chinese language readings, expert young talent on Chinese yo-yos and so many special dances by talented young performers. The dragons were very colorful.
From the backstage crew to the actors and dancers and singers, the adults and children involved formed a cohesive team to rival any professional show. They should be quite proud of their talent and especially their historic cultural heritage. They represented it so well on this day.
The Jersey Shore Chinese School (新海中文學校) is a non-profit organization, which is open to the public.
