HOBOKEN, NJ - A man driving around Hoboken just before 1:00 a.m. without headlights was taken off the streets by police without incident.
At 12:50 a.m. on October 27, Officer Brandon Fitzgibbons and Officer Harold Milne responded to the area of 4th and Willow Avenue after being called about an intoxicated male sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked white van. Upon arrival, they met up with the caller but the van was no longer on scene. However, it came back around minutes later and was observed traveling westbound as it approached 4th and Willow Avenue with the front headlights off.
Officers stopped the vehicle and soon suspected the driver—Juan Lopez, 40, from Jersey City—was under the influence of an intoxicant. A field sobriety test was performed and it was determined that Lopez was unable to operate a motor vehicle safely.
He was placed under arrest, and after being searched, Lopez was found to be in possession of suspect phencyclidine (PCP) and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia, Driving While Intoxicated, Control Dangerous Substance in a Motor Vehicle, Suspended License, and Headlights Required.
Lopez was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. He is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
