JERSEY CITY, NJ - While trains began running along the West Side Avenue line of the Hudson Bergen Light Rail branch earlier this year after nearly a year of utility work, the West Side Station continued to go through renovation for an additional six months, including upgrades to its stairs and platform, as well as a new ramp leading to the sidewalk.

The work, according to local officials, will help accommodate the anticipated future expansion of the transit system from Westside Avenue to Route 440, a project that is set to play a major role in the success of the Bayfront Development project that broke ground earlier this year.

Although he didn’t commit to where the anticipated $200 million to cover the cost would come from Gov. Phil Murphy has joined local and county officials in supporting the expansion.
